Alacitas, in Bolivia, January 24th.
For three days the Aymara people honor Ekeko, their god of prosperity, at a craft fair. Hes a little man with a big belly, an open mouth, and arms spread widevery much like Santa without a beard and the red suit. He carries on his back a lot of goodies.
The Aymara sell little figure of him, as well as miniature items of food, clothing, pots and pans, and nowadays, computer games and toy cars and other necessities.
Fill one of Ekeko's packs with these tiny objects, the people believe, and he will bring you all the real things they represent.
Children cry, "Alacitas!"Buy me!
