Iraq: Inventions and Discoveries

Hello my dear children.  Here's Grandpa McCloud
I want to tell you about Iraq's inventions:
To know more about what Grandpa has been talking about,
click on me, and Grandpa will take you there.
Oh, Did they place my picture upside down again?  Grandpa thinks they want me to look younger.

Iraq is the Mother of Civilization (or Father of it--Grandpa doesn't know which).
They invented alphabets instead of  using pictures.  Can you tell what ancient civilizations used pictures for words?  Anyways, Latin Alphabets ( English, German, French etc...) are all based on Iraqi's alphabets!

They were also good at geometry. See, this is a clock. Every hour is 60 minutes. Every minute is 60 seconds. Why 60? Don’t ask me. Ask them.
If you want to see what are some of their inventions, click here.

They say it is, and Grandpa doesn’t want to argue, because for thousands of years nobody asked and if I say something now, they blame it at Grandpa--again. You see, not only the clock, People of Iraq loved 60s I guess all over. No, Grandpa doesn’t mean 60s in the matter of Beetles, and Mini Coopers but, in other shapes in geometry. You know about triangles don’t you? The rules they made is that in an Equilateral Triangle, each angle is 60 degrees, or the sum of the angles in any triangle is 180 degrees.

You tell me, boys and girls, should we argue with that? We can of course, until the cows come home, but can we win it?

I think they were clever to make up these stories that nobody could beat.
